Yesterday: César Chávez was a Mexican American labor activist and leader of the United Farm Workers. During the 20th century he was a leading voice for migrant farm workers (people who more from place to place in order to find work). His tireless leadership focused national attention on these laborers' terrible working conditions, which eventually led to improvements in their lives.
Today: Many of the issues César Chávez dedicated his life to still exist today. Equal and safe working conditions and equal education are areas that César Chávez fought to improve because they are essential human rights. His basic philosophy was "We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own."
Tomorrow: "¡Sí se puede!" Yes we can! Out actions will bring positive CHANGE to our communities. We have see the power of people organization across this country in recent months. We must continue that call to action to bring change to our communities.
